Brief Introduction of Changzhi Library

    Changzhi Library is situated in No.178 Taihang West Street, Changzhi, and was invested by Changzhi municipal government. It is a comprehensive public library that is open to the public free of charge. Its predecessor was “the Public Library of Changzhi in Taihang District” established in October 18, 1946, and was the most abundant library in the liberated area of Shanxi-Hebei-Shandong-Henan. Xu Xiangqian, the proletarian revolutionist of the older generation, Fan Wenlan, the historian, and the philosopher, Ai Siqi, and other experts and scholars often visited it, borrowing books here, gathering information and data, and writing books on the subject.

    The current Changzhi Library was officially opened to the public in May 2005. The Library covers an area of 1.2 hectares,  has a total construction area of 10,000 square meters, and has a total investment of 35,265,500Yuan. It has 12 external windows, such as Chinese periodical reading rooms, Chinese newspaper reading rooms, and comprehensive reading rooms for clean government culture, etc, and has 1200 reading seats. By 2015, the library has the total collection of more than 620,000 volumes, and the annual reception of more than 320,000 readers. In the fourth and fifth public libraries evaluation, it has been named as the national first-class library of the prefecture- level city.

    In order to further improve the level of library automation and digitalization, Changzhi Library installed the Interlib library cluster system, and constructed and implemented a total business branch in 2012 to become the first prefectural library in Shanxi Province. At present, the library has hundreds of computers, broadband access 30M, automation equipment storage capacity of 30TB. At the same time, the library has realized the library management and the service operation through the Interlib library cluster management system. With the use of the self-help machine for books, electronic newspaper reader and the e-book lending machine as well as the opening of digital portal, the digital service level of the library is gradually improving.

    In order to enhance the public cultural service ability of the library continuously, let more people enjoy the convenient and quick library service, Changzhi Library launched the service of "mobile library entering community" in early 2013. The mobile library regularly goes deep into the community, schools, factories and mines, and barracks, providing readers with door-to-door delivery services to realize the transition from passive to active, and from dynamic to normal. This service is deeply welcomed and recognized by the public and it is called the "flowing cultural landscape".

     In the future, Changzhi Library will continue to shoulder the responsibility and mission of the public library, and will act on the principle of "universal equality, benefit the whole people and the disadvantaged groups first". Through the gradual improvement of public cultural service facilities, continuous exploration and innovation of reading service means and expanding the reading service space and so on, Changzhi Library will actively carry out the national reading promotion activities of multi carrier and multi type, give full play to the positive role of public libraries in promoting the reading of the whole people, and enable the public to enhance the quality in reading.
